The largest department store chain in the United States, Kohl’s, employs around 140,000 people across more than 1,500 locations. The company headquarters is located in the Milwaukee suburb of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin and has corporate offices spread throughout the U.S. that make up a total of 160,000 square meters spread across different buildings. Office cubicles, meeting rooms and other facilities line the buildings, turning them into mazes for a large portion of the employees and visitors to Kohl’s.

 

Challenge

In order to optimise staff resources and make the Kohl’s HQ much easier to navigate, the management at the US retail giant started to look for an indoor navigation provider to map out their corporate HQ. Through US-based partner Maven Wave, Kohl’s chose MapsPeople as their official provider.

Solution

MapsPeople’s indoor navigation platform, MapsIndoors, has been applied across the large corporate venue making it much easier for Kohl’s employees and visitors to get around the campuses. Through the app or the website, employees will be able to search for colleague’s desk numbers and avoid having to ask for directions. When they are called into a meeting room by a member of staff in another building, they can search for that room and see the best route from their current location and estimated walking time.

 

When people get lost, they ask for help. And if they are unsure where to go, they tend to ask for help as well. By offering staff an easy to use indoor navigation solution at their fingertips, Kohl’s will save on staff resources, as less people will need help with directions.

 

At a company of the sheer size of Kohls, it can be a daunting organisation task to figure out which desks are free when new employees start. In the MapsIndoors app, Kohl’s can mark which desks are currently empty, making it easier for them to place new staff.

 

Because MapsIndoors is built with Google Maps, the transition from outdoor to indoor navigation is completely seamless. When staff move between the buildings or want estimated travel time from their own home and to a specific meeting room, they can see the entire route without having to leave the app.
